In “Point Reyes Visions Guidebook” Kathleen Goodwin and Richard Blair have produced a gem. As you can guess, Richard’s photos make it a visual feast. On top of this, however, the little book is organized in such a practical, straightforward way, that it should be the first purchase the visitor makes.

The subtitle sums it up neatly “Where to go, what to do in Point Reyes National Seashore and West Marin.” Certainly, Richard and Kathleen know the area, but they also have a clear concept of a visitors’ needs and priorities. Its what makes this a friendly guidebook.

One chapter is called: “Places to Watch the Sunset” There are also sections on where you can or can’t go with your dog, On cycling. On boating. The book also tells about local oysters, clams, fish, seals and whales as well as land animals.

In giving useful information on favorite beaches and hiking trails, Kathleen often works in a little history. The reader thus gains an intimate feel for our area.

In addition to all this there is a handy and clear, quarter-fold map that slips into a sleeve in the back of the book.

“Point Reyes Visions Guidebook” is available in book stores throughout Marin. Most local merchants carry it and, of course, you will find it at park headquarters. However, it you want to meet the authors, you can visit their studio during Point Reyes Open Studios set for the three days after Thanksgiving. Theirs will be one of 21 studios open to the public. And, of course, they will be offering this wonderful book.
