IN THE DARK

With the days growing shorter, I find myself once again getting dressed in the dark. I had forgotten the great peril.

When I met my neighbor Rishi Schweig this morning I said that I had almost called him.

“What’s up?”

“I didn’t realize for a terrifying minute or two that I had my underpants on backward.”

“Oh me!” said Rishi, “but what could I have done?

“The same thought soon occurred to me. So I called 911.”

“You didn’t”

“No, but it’s fun to speculation what the response would have been.”

  COYOTE REPORT

Are their numbers climbinmg? A few weeks ago, Joe and Moe Blumenthal of Inverness spotted a coyote while driving to Limontour Beach, and just a few days ago, Steve Hadland of Point Reyes spotted not one but five out there. Steve reports they were on the dried mud at the endge of the shrinking pond feasting on a dead deer.

If you people would just carry cameras, you might be more convincing.

Kidding aside, coyotes were all but eliminated in West Marin after sheep ranchers got permission to poison them. In the last few years, however, they've been making a come-back. Sightings are still rare, but it looks as if that might change.
